About us
We are part of the larger McMaster Family Health Team. Our family health team is made up of family doctors and a variety of other health-care professionals. We also support the education of many people at various stages of their health care careers. You will meet many of these people at some point during your visits.
Our clinic began in the Hamilton Henderson Hospital in the 1970s, where a teaching family unit was developed. In the early 1990s, we moved out of the hospital and into the community to better meet the needs of our patients. As the clinic continued to expand with new family practices, residents and growing patient numbers, the clinic once again made the decision to move to Upper Ottawa St. The family practices were divided into three teams to provide the best possible care for our patients. The creation of teams also better supported the education of our residents and learners.
We pride ourselves on providing our patients with the best care possible in a wide range of service areas for every age group. Our clinic and the entire McMaster Family Health Team are here for you on every step of your health care journey.
Our Team
One of the best aspects of a Family Health Team is the wide range of services you have access to. The health-care professionals at our clinics work together to make sure you receive the best care possible.

Residents are doctors who have fully completed medical school and are undergoing further specialized training known as residency. Residents can order tests, make diagnoses, prescribe medications, treat mental illness, complete forms, etc. They provide comprehensive care under your family doctor’s direct supervision. Thanks to patients like you, most residents at our clinics will specialize in family medicine and will practice independently after two years. You are helping to train the family doctors of the future!
Nurse practitioners are registered nurses with additional training. They are able to order and interpret diagnostic tests, communicate a diagnosis, prescribe medications and perform some procedures in treating illness. Nurse practitioners work with the health care team to restore, maintain and advance the health of individuals, groups or communities by emphasizing health promotion as well as illness and injury prevention.
Registered practical nurses focus on providing health promotion, wellness and nursing skills to patients requiring routine care. They are able to provide you with services such as health education, immunizations, foot care, and many other routine tests and treatments.
Physician assistants provide care under the supervision of a registered doctor. Physician assistants are not independent practitioners. The doctor and physician assistant work together to provide health care to you in a variety of ways. This includes physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, performing selected treatments and procedures as delegated by your physician, and counselling in preventative health care.
Physiotherapists identify and maximize the ability to move, function and stay independent throughout the lifespan. Physiotherapists can work with you to prevent, maintain or treat injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, manual therapy, education and advice.
Occupational therapists help people with the activities that a person wants and needs to do, no matter what injury, illness, condition, disability, lifestyle, or environment stands in the way. Occupational therapists can help you to perform, modify, or adapt skills and activities in order to live a healthier and more productive lifestyle.
Registered dietitians provide advice on nutrition, food and healthy eating choices to help you look good and feel great. Registered dietitians take complex medical and nutrition research and make it easier for you to make daily food choices and plan healthy meals. They can show you how healthy eating can be fun, enjoyable and delicious!
They don’t just fill prescriptions! Pharmacists promote health awareness and disease prevention. Pharmacists play a role in educating both patients and other health care professionals about medicines and other health related products, dosages, interactions and side effects. They can monitor your health progress and refer to other health care professionals when necessary.
Social workers help individuals, families, groups and communities enhance individual and collective well-being. They aim to help people develop skills and abilities to use their own resources and those of the community to resolve problems. A social worker provides counselling and education to individuals or families, and may work with you individually or in a group setting.
Our system navigator can assist you with questions or concerns about health and social services in your community. They can assist with providing information about local services, connecting you to these services, and with commonly used forms or documentation required by these services.
All of our health-care providers are supported by a large team of non-clinical staff who are here to ensure you have an excellent experience with us. These staff members include medical secretaries, business clerks, clinic aides, team assistants, billing clerks, accounting assistants, heath records staff and administrative assistants.
The clinic’s leadership team is also here to assist you in having the best possible experience. Our leadership team includes a medical director, clinical director, administrative coordinator and supervisors.
